CHRISTIAN ACTIVITIES

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

In all churches, extra focus must be given to the spiritual developments of the younger generation- the Youth. They are the the ones who will take over from the adults. Hence they must be involved in the main service in order that when the times come for them to lead, they would be able to lead.

The following activities are recommended to assist the youth in the church:

1. Youth fellowship
– sharing testimony
– sing along
– bible study
2. BBQ
– pot bless/meals together
3. OUTING
– hiking
– camping
4. OUTREACH
– visiting other youth group
– evangelism

5. VISITING
– home for the aged
– home for the handicap
– hospital
– other churches
6. Christian CONCERT.
(popular among youth)
– song presentation
– dance/drama

7. JOINT YOUTH FELLOWSHIP
– for churches which are close by
alternate venues

8. CHRISTIAN YOUTH NETWORK

9. YOUTH BAND/CHOIR/DANCE ETC
– learning the guitar or other musical instruments and learning music/dance etc..

10.Camp fire.
This is suitable for small community of say about a hundred people, joining together by the fire and have some activities that will involve everyone. If you cannot get everybody into the church, this is one activity you can get those people join in the fun.One informal way to socialize.
The camp fire is done at the centre of the village.
11. .
We must know that young people love such as football, volleyball etc..To get many people involved, telematch is often the main activity and very popular too.

12.HOLIDAYS
Parents hands are full during school holidays.Sending children for tuition is not a good idea because the children need a break from the books! But they still can learn and motivated by a well organized tour or visits such as to the zoo, museum, the universities, historical places etc. They can be sent to the countryside- to their grandparents at the mountain village to learn about village and countrylife.

13.BASIC SKILLS THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW

Learning of basic skills is a great character builder. For instance, learning how to cook, how to split firewood, how to build a shed, how to cut wood with a chain saw, how to draw, how to swim, how to make animal traps, how to climb a tree, how to hunt, not to cut the grass with a brush cutter and how to open a durian fruit are very useful. The reason why the youth divert their attention to the shopping complexes, their hand phones, the ciber cafe, loitering is because no one ever try to bring them out to do those interesting skill acquisition.Children are tried of being scolded, or nagged or advised but doing those things in group will be a good teacher to their characters.

Why not organise a trip to the highland village and experience nature plus those activities for the youth who stay in the towns? This can be done through the “Balik Kampung concept.”

14. NATURE HUNTER
Children needs to be exposed to nature. In other words, they should be brought out of the city into the jungle. To explore the jungle decreases tension and bring us back to normal. The jungle is a silent teacher where all kinds of plants and insects etc are on display- free of charge! Sleeping among the round stones near a flowing streams and taking our bath in there first thing in the morning will refresh our mind and body too. What about sitting by the fire at night, near the river while drinking hot tea or coffee?

15. TEACH US WHAT YOU KNOW:

Everyone of us knows something much better that most of the other people or vice versa. I know how to pluck a guitar. Some body knows how to blow the flute better. May be someone else know how to dance or play the drum. Some might be able to sing but cannot play the instrument. So everyone will try to show the other how to do it.

16. Overseas trip.

Life in our country is not difficult if compared with some neighbouring countries. Visiting these countries open our eyes to what is happening around us and stir us to help those in need. At the same time, some other countries can teach us many things too.
